AZBox Elite IDE Recording (BETA)
Notice: by doing this you may void your warranty and
I will not be liable for that or any damages it may cause.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!

Recording on an AZBox Elite can be done with IDE drives connected internally.
It has worked for me your outcome may vary.

Here is a list of items needed to do that.

1. 2 IDE Hard Drives.

2.
Dual IDE ribbon cable.

3.
USB Thumb Drive with your favorite version of the AZBox firmware (I used 09.4219)

4.
Philip Screwdriver

5.
External IDE Power Supply (I used an external USB CD-Rom)

Remove the 5 screws holding the top cover on (3 in the rear and 1 on each side).
Once the cover is removed it should look like this:

Once that is done Look for the 40 pin DOM
The AZBox Elite uses a DOM (Disk On Module) 40pin True IDE Interface for it's memory.
P1110004-a2.jpg

Carefully Remove the DOM and
Put this in a safe place.

Next connect the IDE cable to the main board of the AZBox
P1110099-a.JPG

If one end is blue use that connector.

Next connect the hard drives to the cable.
Small drive as master and larger drive as slave since
the slave drive is the recording drive.

Next connect a power supply to the hard drives.

This one was removed from an
external USB 2.0 CD Rom Drive.

You may need a Y cable since there is only
one power connector.

It should look like this

When you have it all connected
Connect a thumb drive to the top USB port
that has the firmware (patch.bin) that you want to use.

Connect your TV and other cables to your AZBox and power supply
Turn on your AZBox.
After a few seconds you should get a "Upgrade" Menu
Arrow down to #4 "Format application area" and hit OK
BootmenuOp4.jpg

Once the format is complete "Reboot"

Once again after a few seconds you should get a "Upgrade" Menu
Arrow should be on #1 "USB" and hit "OK"
BootmenuOp1.jpg

This will install the patch on the new drive.

Once it's done installing the new patch it will reboot into Settings.
System-SS-E2P2.jpg

Notice that the firmware version does not say Elite anymore.
It's changed to AZBox Premium HD.
Now that we got the recording feature turned on
We now have to Format the 2nd Hard drive.

Storage-SS2a2.jpg

As you can see I already formatted the drive.
My drive is labeled as a 160gb drive but shows 149.0GB.
Don't worry about that.
Select your 2nd drive and arrow down to "Format"
Once the format is done Reboot.
(just hold down the power button for a few seconds)

When the system reboots your ready to record!
just select your channel and hit the record button.
Live-SS1aa.jpg

Now you can record on the AZBox!

My test has shown it has worked fine so far.

Next I want to try and remove the 1st hard drive and reinstall the DOM with a cable
like this

I think the the wires need to be crossed over.
I will think about it after some sleep.
:XD:
