Pure air?

Indeed! Literally!!! One of the aims would be to fight the "intellectual property rights" as they stand today.

Let's say that the West has the know-how for much cleaner technology and that China and India are huge pollutants, due to more and more cars on their roads, their manufacturing industry catering for Western needs (something we are stopping nowadays) and so on and on and on....

Now, what's the point of us bitching about Chinese heavy pollution, while they are producing stuff for us and we do not want to give them the technology as to how to do it with considerably cleaner processes, materials etc.?!?

It is obscene! The Earth is only one, we affect each other, there is no way out of this one!!! Therefore, that kind of capitalist, short-term idiocy has to be challenged!

HACK ON, FELLOW PIRATAS!!!! :D :D :D

Mmmmmm Gorski, If you know this girl, she could be our main candidate ;) Our leader! lol

About the system: I think that capitalism is like this, few person manages the world, and now we depend on low-cost production of countries like China, Brazil, ... but, I make a question: 'values' or 'education', because would you pay more for the same solution?
It is not a problem of 'technology'. Politicians (all around the world) permit this situation. As you said, we have extrict 'norms' (quality, job conditions, ...) and they know (politicians) how we are 'buying' the external products (ironic). This external countries have money (and I can assure technology too), and if they have money, technology comes in hand.

BR

Explain, please...

Mind, where I am from there is a proverb "I am not a millionaire to buy cheap [stuff]!"B)

Did I get your point?

It is not a problem of 'technology'. Politicians (all around the world) permit this situation. As you said, we have extrict 'norms' (quality, job conditions, ...) and they know (politicians) how we are 'buying' the external products (ironic).

I tell you, a lot of the problems today are down to know-how/technology/science and transference of it to the poorer/developing countries... Just check the pollution/smog in Chinese main cities... For instance!

If we in the West have the know-how and technology to make it better - what's the point of bitching about the Chinese pollution, since we can reduce it significantly, if we decided to transfer that technology (since the Chinese are producing a lot of stuff for us, do we not MUST do precisely that?!?)?!?

This external countries have money (and I can assure technology too), and if they have money, technology comes in hand.

They have some technology they are interested and can afford to invest in (like military and space tech, like China) but sure as hell have no idea how to reduce the pollution or think they are under pressure form the West to invest elsewhere etc.

Some of those countries do have some (sovereign) funds but that means not a great deal, as all the Western countries are not exactly poor to fear that and they have means to stop those funds at their borders, if they choose to do so...

Gorski... there is a mistake at BBC News, it's fog (not smog) :P (I am kidding)

I know about this situation in China, about pollution. But I have my 'conclusion' about how they arrived at this situation: it's not a decision of the population, it's a decision of 'few' persons (I will explain now).

The phrase "About the system...", I am refering about capitalist system (extended all around, direct or indirectly). And this 'system' is managed for 'few' persons.

And this about our problems: few persons around the world are deciding and affecting in our problems.

About smog: do you think that people at this country decided which kind of industry they want? conditions? norms? no. The construction of an industry is decision of 'few' persons that has the money, and sure, they decide the construction in a minimum legal conditions (costs) for a 'quick' return of investment. And this 'privileged' persons are making them more and more rich, and yes, they have the money (for paying technology if they don't have), but why expend more if I could construct cheapest? this is how I feel it.

But maybe I am not right. It's complex, global situation it's so far away from my sight. I repeat, this is how I feel it.

'Piraten Partei' it's the first step... for transparency, decisions (popular referendum), ... Maybe impossible?

;)

Salu2
